UPSA Elections

The end of the semester will soon be upon us, and every year UPSA (Undergraduate Physiology Student Association) invites all its members to run for and elect its *new executive team for the following year. *This year, the current execs have decided to put forth the motion to reallocate the executive responsibilities among nine (9) members for 2012-2013. Because this is a change to the constitution of our association, the amendment will have to be voted upon before the election (both will happen on the same day). SO, all physiology students (i.e. enrolled in a PSL POSt) are eligible and encouraged to run for a position, as well as exercise their voting rights. It's a great way to meet extraordinary people and get involved!

WHEN: Friday, March 16 @ 4pm

WHERE: MS (Medical Sciences Building) Room 3163

WHAT:
*ITEM A)* A vote to amend the UPSA consitution (Article IV, Sections 1, 2c, 2d; please see our website for the constitution). The amendment proposes that the executive shall consist of nine (9) members, all of whom will be elected by secret ballot at the end of every spring term:
1) President
2) Vice President
3) Secretary
4) Treasurer
5) Director of Social Events (or Events Coordinator)
6) Director of External Affairs
7) Student Liaison
8) Director of Public Relations - Webmaster
9) Director of Public Relations - Promotions
All executives shall hold office from the end of the May examination period until the end of the following May examination period
(Note: this is a one-round Y/N vote, and should be relatively quick. Expected to take <10 minutes.)

*ITEM B)* An election for the 2012-2013 executive team, which will consist of either the members listed above (should the amendment pass) or the members currently listed in our constitution (should the amendment not pass).

**NOTE: President and Vice President positions are only available to current UPSA executive members.

Each candidate may apply for a maximum of TWO positions. Candidates should be prepared to deliver a speech in front of voters for EACH position he/she is running for. *Interested candidates should let election organizers know at upsa.uoft@gmail.com no later than Wednesday, March 14th, 2012. *

We look forward to seeing all at the elections; have a delightful remainder of the semester!

Physiology Student Social Event

Friday January 13 2012 @ 3PM
MS 3227

Interested in graduate school?
Wondering what courses you need to take?
Want to figure out how to get a summer research position?

Then you better keep reading!

UPSA(Undergraduate Physiology Student Association) and GASP (Graduate Association of Students in Physiology) are bringing you the annual Physiology Student Social/Mentorship Event!

This event will bring together current undergraduate and graduate students in Physiology for a mentoring event with topics ranging from how to survive undergrad to what you need to do to get a Ph.D, and everything in between. After a brief introduction of the department research platforms by current graduate students, undergrads will get a chance to mingle and chat one-on-one with graduate students. This is a great opportunity to get the tips, tricks, and behind-the-scene secrets from someone who has "been there" and "done that".

Oh, did we mention there will be refreshments?

So if you are at all interested in knowing (1) the best undergraduate courses to take, (2) the unspoken rules of how to find a research supervisor, (3) inside dish on the projects, labs, and platforms in the department, (4) anything else you might care to ask, then this is an event you will definitely not want to miss!

We also encourage you to email questions you might have for the grad students NOW so that we can better address them during the event!

Please send your questions or concerns regarding research and graduate life to upsa.uoft@gmail.com! Also, as space is limited, please RSVP to the above email address to reserve your spot!

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Physiology Academic Seminar

Friday November 18 2011 @ 4-6PM
MS 2173

If you are thinking about going to graduate school, this is a great chance to expose yourself to possible research areas you may be interested in, and to find out what its like to work in a lab, and what you should be doing during in your undergraduate years.

This is a great opportunity to get information and ask questions, so don't miss out!

Hope to see you there!
