Academic Seminar with Dr. Anne Wheeler
Interested in research? Not sure where to start? Come to UPSA’s academic seminar featuring Dr. Anne Wheeler! Dr. Wheeler is an assistant professor at the University of Toronto and a scientist at The Hospital for Sick Children, based at the the Neuroscience and Mental Health department in the Peter Gilgan Center for Research and Learning. Her research focuses on the characterization of traumatic brain injury using cutting edge neuro-MRI, neural circuits, behavioural testing, and myelin dynamics. Physiology Research Advisory Program
The Undergraduate Physiology Students’ Association (UPSA) and the Graduate Association for Students in Physiology (GASP) are proud to present the 5th Annual Physiology Research Advisory Program! The goal of this program is to give junior undergraduates an opportunity to connect with a graduate mentor in the Department of Physiology in order to learn more about research opportunities and graduate school. The Advisory Program offers laboratory shadowing, networking opportunities, and social events to become more familiar with research in the Physiology Department! Eligible participants will be guaranteed a shadowing opportunity in one of the many laboratories conducting exciting, novel research at the University of Toronto’s Department of Physiology. There will be a welcome “Meet and Greet” in January (date and location TBD) where you will meet your graduate mentor! This event is catered towards students with no research experience.We ask that applicants prepare the following ahead of time to ensure application goes smoothly:
- Resume/CV Complete Academic History (*GPA is not considered)
- Statement of Interest (Max 200 words)

The Undergraduate Physiology Students’ Association (UPSA) invites you to our spooky ? academic seminar with Prof Amira Klip from SickKids! Prof Amira Klip is a Senior Scientist in the Cell Biology Program at the SickKids Research Institute and Professor of Paediatrics, Biochemistry, and Physiology at the University of Toronto. In order to understand the process of insulin resistance, a leading cause of type 2 diabetes, Prof Klip studies insulin action and the cellular and molecular steps involved in this process. read more about her here:

Dr. Josselyn is a prominent researcher in the field of cognitive function and dysfunction. Her research focuses on the transcription factors that regulate the protein synthesis necessary for long-term memory (LTM) formation and their role in human cognitive impairments.

Movie Night Social!
Have you ever wondered the physiology behind losing consciousness because of a Mandrake’s scream? How about the biochemistry of making a Polyjuice potion?
We don’t have those answers for you, but we DO have a Harry Potter themed movie night social, where you can be immersed in the Harry Potter world for an evening, with BUSS and UPSA! Join us on Nov. 24 for this social event filled with food, games, and awesome company from the BUSS and UPSA execs, followed by watching a movie from the much-loved Harry Potter series!
Of course, you don’t need to be a huge fan of Harry Potter to come! Everyone is invited to socialize, play some board games, eat some good food, and relax before the exam season begins! You deserve a break :)
